FAQs
do you accept insurance?
Most insurance companies in the United States do not offer coverage for functional medicine. Practicing conventional medicine is restricted due to health insurance treatment claim reimbursement. A factor in reimbursement is time spent with the patient. Utilizing a functional medicine approach, we can spend as much time as we need without the time constraints built into a traditional payer model. At this time, my services are not covered by health insurance although we may be able to utilize your health insurance to cover the cost of the laboratory testing. We can also utilize your HSA for my fee for service.
how much do labs cost?
As with my program, everything is carefully tailored to your needs. Functional medicine labs can cost anywhere from $300-$1500 based on your needs. Typically you can expect ~$500 unless there is a specialized test I might recommend. This is all dependent on what labs are indicated and what insurance company you have. I will always prioritize the most necessary. Regular blood work panels can often times be run through insurance although the lab company I utilize does run deep discounts for self pay.
are you an alternative to my primary care provider?
We are not! Although I am a board certified family nurse practitioner, I do not take the place of your primary care provider. I recommend you maintain a relationship with your PCP as they can provide necessary services for acute visits, routine screenings such as mammograms, PAP smears, prostate exams, yearly skin checks. I will gladly collaborate with your PCP when necessary.
what if i have an emergency?
If you have an emergency, you need to contact 911 or make your way safely to your nearest emergency department.
i don’t live in the chicagoland area. Can I do telemedicine?
Absolutely! In fact, some of my patients prefer telehealth over in person visits due to convenience! As long as you are in the state of Illinois, I am happy to see you via telehealth visit. There are some instances where I would recommend in person visits and of course if this is your preference, we can make arrangements. Many patients do prefer telehealth visits due to the convenience of being in your own home, no commute or lost time sitting in traffic or a waiting room. As with everything else, it’s fully customizable.
